About nuts
Despite its small size and simple design, the nut occupies an honorable place in our lives. It’s just that we don’t think much about how important this fastener is. And only when the need arises, we pay attention that the nut is very necessary and irreplaceable
This product with a threaded hole is first found in the 15th century. The nut was used to connect the moving parts of the armor of Milanese soldiers.
The uniqueness lies in the fact that this hardware is used in the spheres of industrial industry, and is also a material for the implementation of creative ideas. So, for example, the metal craftsman Manuel Marti Moreno uses nuts to create sculptures, the highlight of which is their incompleteness. And in the Strugatsky brothers’ novel “Picnic on the Sidewalk”, a whole chapter is devoted to nuts, in which the heroes, throwing nuts in front of them, determined the area with increased gravity.
Nuts are usually made of carbon and stainless steel. It is interesting that in 1973, for the first time, a nut was cast from gold, for the manufacture of a golden saber, as a prize for the winner in sports fencing competitions.
Jewelers, having noticed this peculiarity of the appearance of the nut, began to make wedding rings that resemble metalwork.
The most common form of nut production is hexagonal. But there are also round, square nuts with protrusions (“lambs”), or other shapes. In addition to a variety of forms, the nut has many names. For example, cap nut, furniture socket, Roman nut, anti-vandal, hexagon with flange, round with slot and other names.
Nuts are used in almost all industries, from the production of children’s toys to connecting nodes in bridge structures.
Having an inch as well as a metric thread pitch, the nut performs the function of not only a connection. The nut protects from breakage (breakaway nut) the threaded nodes of the structure, located in public places. It also protects the parts being fastened from damage, increasing the area of their contact.
