DIN 982 and DIN 985 are standards for self-locking hexagonal nuts with a non-metallic insert – a nylon ring.

The main difference between DIN 982 and DIN 985 is the height of the nuts. With the same thread diameter, DIN 982 nuts are taller than DIN 985 nuts. The size range of DIN 985 nuts is wider than that of DIN 982.

The use of a non-metallic plastic liner in the nut design prevents the connection from loosening without the need for additional lock washers. DIN 982 and DIN 985 nuts are recommended for use in products and structures subject to vibrations and dynamic loads.

Low nuts DIN 985, which are self-locking, are used in places where height is limited, while high nuts according to DIN 982 are used in connections where increased strength and fixation are required.
